I just love coming across quirky music blog sites. One that I have bookmarked and visit once in awhile (mostly since the author only adds content sparingly) has me quite mesmerized. It's at Live Journal and is called Goethe-re-scape.
He has a fondness for old European pop music and left of center dance music. In his latest entry he's compiled a list of his 50 favorite videos. I'll guarantee you haven't seen many of these. But you will be enthralled.
Last Friday, April 23rd, someone posted video footage of a local St. Louis TV show from the late 1970's. The magazine style show featured a segment on The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
It's the typical piece with the reporter taking the shocked middle American view of the affair while interviewing the freakish regular attendees. This late night movie ritual was taking place all over the country and is reminiscent of my experiences. I never went as far as dressing up, but I did enjoy the movie and the participatory antics of the audience. Though there was the time our college frat dressed up in our ceremonial robes to attend. I probably went to half a dozen screenings.
It appears that Michael Stipe was a fan as well. At the 1:30 mark of the youtube clip guy dressed in drag is interviewed. The voice most certainly is that of Stipe. In fact, he went to high school just outside of St. Louis according to his Wikipedia page.
This is certainly no surprising news. Many adventurous music fans were drawn to The Rocky Horror Picture Show. It's merely a fun little discovery for fans of Stipe and his career.
Bruce Springsteen has announced the release of a DVD from his Hyde Park show in London on June 28, 2009. The street date is nearly one year later, June 22, 2010.
I'm a bit surprised that he didn't release one of the full album shows since he did do multi-camera filmings for at least one of each. Oh well, I'm sure they'll mine those down the road. It also looks like the Darkness On The Edge Of Town box will be out in the fall then.
This is the first concert film of Springsteen from a festival setting. It also received great reviews from the UK press.
