As dawn breaks on Cleveland the winds still wail. I just drove from West Park out to Olmsted Falls dodging fallen tree branches on the way and observing sporadic power outages.
All the while listening to local and national news. New York City is a disaster area, the Jersey Shore has extended it's beach onto the streets. With the sunrise we'll be able to assess the damage here in Cleveland and all over the northeast of the United States.
Yesterday I ventured down to the shore of Lake Erie. I've never seen or felt a sustained wind like that. It was intense to say the least.
From there we headed to a bar in Lakewood to see friends Jim Tigue, Eroc and Jon Darling play two sets of Neil Young music. Just as they ended the power went out. The trio proceeded to sing the encore, "Like A Hurricane", in the dark, illuminated by our smart phones and reinforced by our singing along. It was magical.
So good does come from storms like this. But now it's time to help neighbors. Many without power and damage to their property. Stay safe.
