With some spare time yesterday I decided to head down to the Rock Hall to check out the new exhibit From Asbury Park To The Promised Land: The Life And Music Of Bruce Springsteen. The amount of pieces in the collection is staggering. Not only is Bruce a pack rat but it's clear he envisioned himself as someday being famous and thus kept scads of memorabilia. Included is a pile of motel keys he kept from the early 70's, dozens of concert posters and scores of original, hand written lyrics to so many classic songs.
Among the guitars on display, and the highlight of the show, is his iconic Fender guitar that graces the cover of Born To Run. With the body of a vintage Telecaster and the neck of an Esquire, it is a sight to behold in all its worn beauty. He even played it at this past Superbowl appearance. With his new tour just underway last night I'm a bit surprised he's left it on loan for the Rock Hall, obviously not to be played on this tour.
It was a pleasant surprise to see an old WBWC colleague and friend, Todd Richards, broadcasting live from the Rock Hall lobby. I even got to reminisce a bit with him on the air about my time spent at the station from 1990 to 1995. There's some pix here on Todd's Facebook page which touts his Running Late show on the station. A program that's just reached its' 500th show.
