Smart home technology is coming to the common man. That ability to control your lighting, security, home theater and other systems with a simple to use interface at an affordable price is getting closer.
It's still a bit confusing to the consumer. There's a number of disparate systems that use wi-fi in order to control. You can buy a climate control device and a remote that navigates your home theater, but they can't work together. Motorola is showing how that'll soon change with their Connected Home Gateway.
It was demonstrated at this past CES show. In a nutshell, the device combines all of these different systems into one. Install the app on your smart phone and set up commands to perform multiple tasks. Check out this video from the show. It'll give you a better understanding of what the future holds.
Now the FCC has given Motorola the go ahead to sell the product. As I say, the waters are still a little murky but the future is clear. It's not to say everyone will have or want this type of Jetsonian lifestyle, but what was once out of reach for most is now achievable for many.
